HPD drops assault complaint against Aiea coach

UPDATE:

Honolulu police says an assault investigation involving Aiea football coach Wendell Say is over.

The man who made the allegations says he mistakenly identified say as the person who attacked him at a convenience store.

Say’s attorney says the man has withdrawn his complaint and sent his apologies to the coach.

Say says he is relieved that this is over.

Aiea High School football coach Wendell Say, who was arrested this week in an assault case, says he was nowhere near the site of the fight.

A 35-year-old man alleged coach say assaulted him October 9th at an Aiea convenience store.

Police asked say to come to the Honolulu police station Tuesday, where he was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault and second-degree terroristic threatening.

"I am sorry that a young man in our community apparently has been injured, but I had absolutely nothing to do with it,” said Wendell Say.

Say said he was at Sam’s Club Pearl Highlands just before the alleged incident, then returned to his Wahiawa home with his wife and daughter.

Say was not charged and was released pending investigation.
