Fundraiser planned for boy injured during Pop Warner practice

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and University of Hawaii Warrior quarterback Bryant Moniz will be signing autographs and posing for photos to raise money in honor of a young boy who suffered a brain injury during his Pop Warner football practice in October of 2011.

Drew Iida, 6, stumbled and fell during practice on October 1, 2011.

Iida is recovering from a brain injury at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

“Drew had a closed brain injury.  We are unsure what caused the initial bleeding in his brain, but we do know that the bleeding caused a lot of trauma to his brain and that is what he is fighting to recover from now,” said Drew’s mother, Sheri Iida.  “We are not sure how long he will need to stay in Arizona.  We will stay as long as he makes progress or till he is well enough to go home.”

A fundraiser to help pay for his medical costs will be held on Thursday, January 26th at the Pan Am Building in Honolulu.
