Column: Hope for Hawaii, Army on land leases

As someone who proudly served as the commanding general of U.S. Army Pacific and has deep ties to Hawaii, I write today not as a soldier, but as a long-time friend of the state and its people. I care deeply about this place, not only for its strategic importance to our national defense, but also for its vibrant culture, unique communities and the generations of families who call it home. I also care about the future. And what I see unfolding now around the issue of military land retention in Hawaii is deeply concerning.
