The Royal Resort on Convention Center Drive, one block east of the Strip, will be demolished at the end of August. It won’t be an implosion, as it’s a low-rise structure; rather, it will be brought down with machinery absent a big production. The casino opened in 1970 as the Royal Las Vegas, changed its name to the Royal Hotel Casino in the 1990s, and changed again to the Royal Resort in the early 2000s. In 2022, a fire on an upper floor set off the sprinkler system, which resulted in property-wide water damage, shutting down the hotel for good. No plans for the prime location have been made public.
