Letter: City’s lawsuit valid, hold oil firms accountable

Timothy T. Silvester’s recent column contributes more to the world of fiction than fact (“City wages climate lawfare against Big Oil at cost of residents,” Star-Advertiser, Island Voices, July 24). He wrongly indicates that Honolulu’s lawsuit against oil companies is based on public nuisance law. In truth, the lawsuit is about deceptive marketing and the companies’ failure to warn the public — despite knowing for decades about the harms that their products would cause. The lawsuit would hold the oil companies accountable.
