Kokua Line: What does TSA do with passengers’ photos?

Question: What does the Transportation Security Administration do with the pictures it takes of us passengers going through the airport security lines? I saw a sign saying I didn’t have to get my picture taken but I didn’t want to risk slowing down the line by finding out what would happen if I said no.
