Editorial: Find relief for Hawaii ‘energy burdened’

When the COVID-19 pandemic forced a global shutdown, Hawaii’s unemployment rate jumped from 2.2% in March 2020 to 22.4% the next month — worst in the nation. At one point in 2020, an estimated 76,000 workers had no job. That gave many in our state a feel for the pain and anxiety that develops when it’s uncertain that one can keep a roof overhead, buy groceries and pay the energy bill — with power often being the first one to go.
