Off the news: Don’t shutter Mauna Loa Observatory

The Trump administration plans to shut down the nearly 70-year-old project of measuring atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide and other gases at the Mauna Loa Observatory by shuttering the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration office supporting the research. Hawaii’s U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono and U.S. Reps. Jill Tokuda and Ed Case pushed back last week, with a resolution highlighting the observatory’s history.
