A recent letter writer objects to “under God” being added to the Pledge of Allegiance (“Adding ‘under God’ turned pledge religious,” Star-Advertiser, Sept. 11). He sees it as subscribing to a religion. He apparently does not consider that God, whatever one calls Him, Her or It, precedes religion and belongs in the broader category of existentialism — our search for meaning.
