Letter: Maui mayor’s statements on don’t carry water

The article regarding the Maui Council vote on a short-term vacation rental bill after its first reading again cites Mayor Richard Bissen’s remarks about water shortages being a factor in building low-income housing (“Maui vacation rental bill passes first reading,” Star-Advertiser, Dec. 2). Yet there seems to be no shortage of water to build upscale resorts in South Maui for the use of wealthy tourists. Who is fooling whom here and what is really going on?
