’Tis the season for giving — to friends, family, loved ones and, regrettably, fraudsters. On Dec. 4, a Star-Advertiser report underscored the toll that unrelenting fraud has had on the isles, with Oahu cases leaving residents’ wallets more than $7 million lighter this year. Scammers are active across the islands and many, from young adults to kupuna, are falling prey to their expensive tricks.
