Off the news: Telescopes see constellation of protest

The U.S. Air Force/Space Force is pushing ahead with plans to add up to seven small telescopes on Haleakala’s summit, releasing a draft environmental assessment in January. Citing the proliferation of commercial and military satellites, and growing tensions with China, Russia and North Korea, the military says advanced ability to track space objects is essential.
