Column: Improve Hawaii laws on disposition of metals after cremation

Consumer protection seems like an obvious and primary role of government, and yet in many ways it seems elusive. Years ago, when my wife passed away and while still grieving, I arranged for her memorial service and selected an urn for her ashes following her cremation. Because she had several surgical implants, I asked the funeral director what happened to them, since they were not in her urn.
