Letter: Quirks of U.S. democracy allow Trump to thrive

A democracy is a system in which the will of the majority prevails, embodied in the ideal of one person, one vote. How is it that, in this country, the majority is not able to prevent one citizen, no matter how wise, composed, law-abiding, moral and compassionate he is, from terrorizing the world, including his own country, in our name?
