Column: Aquarium collection a blight on Hawaii

This year, the state Legislature is considering a bill to prohibit the commercial collection of reef wildlife for the international pet trade. House Bill 2101 was presented by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs in response to calls from its beneficiaries to end this harmful industry. Although commercial collection has been effectively banned for years by community-led lawsuits, there is a small but vocal minority of industry supporters that continue to mislead decision-makers with false narratives and alarmist rhetoric. These false narratives need to be set straight.
