Editorial: Steer tax breaks to less-wealthy

Three approaches to adjusting Hawaii’s historic tax-cut program have been considered by the Legislature during this session: Gov. Josh Green’s proposal that tax cuts be halted at 2025 levels, with additional targeted relief for families with children and households with daycare expenses; a House-crafted proposal to let the standard deduction rise as legislated, while raising the tax that higher earners pay on income in new top brackets; and a Senate package that seeks to keep those tax breaks coming for all but high-income filers.
