Off the news: Sweet goodbye to beloved confectioner

A hui hou, Menehune Mac. The candy maker, founded in 1939, had been Hawaii’s oldest manufacturer, known for its quality product and prized, particularly, by Japanese candy connoisseurs. However, the chocolate- macadamia nut candies were hand-scooped, making them labor-intensive. Workers became hard to find, and in the end, owners said the operation no longer penciled out.
