Letter: Why can’t Republicans reduce national debt?

In his recent column on lowering the national debt, conservative columnist Cal Thomas fails to mention whether the responsibility lies with Republicans or Democrats (“It’s messy work, but someone has to zero out federal debt,” Star-Advertiser, May 5). Mr. Thomas does acknowledge that the country’s debt is the purview of Congress.
