Column: EVs can drive energy independence

The war in Iran has disrupted energy supplies, and Hawaii is feeling the pinch. Drivers paid about $5.64 per gallon over Memorial Day. Hawaiian Electric warned typical residential bills would rise 20% to 30% in the coming months. A typical Oahu household using 500 kilowatt-hours went from $194 to as much as $256 in a single billing cycle, a 32% increase in 5 months.
