Letter: Prescriptive authority safely eases burden

A recent op-ed in opposition to Senate Bill 847 stokes unwanted fears without offering solutions to the shortage of prescribing mental health prescribers in Hawaii (“There are no shortcuts in mental health,” Star-Advertiser, Island Voices, June 24). Due to a 60% shortage of psychiatrists and prescribing advanced practice registered nurses, patients are typically waiting an average of three months to see a prescribing professional. That is the real danger that SB 847 addresses.
