The downsizing of the wonderful comic strip “Big Nate” from every day to Sunday should not pass without an appreciation for what it has brought to Star-Advertiser readers for years. Lincoln Peirce’s title character uses one of the most effective bases for comedy: the character who is not self-aware. Both Nate and his father are legends in their own minds, and routinely generate laughs by collisions with reality, from which they never learn.
