Jobs and participation in the labor force grew in May, with a welcome 1,400 new nonfarm jobs created above April’s count — propelled by construction throughout the state, led by rebuilding on Maui; public and private infrastructure spending, including federal money from the 2021 Infrastructure and Jobs Act and the $3.43 billion dry dock project at Pearl Harbor; and tourism spending.
