Letter: Glenn Izutsu marched in Selma for UH, Hawaii

Among the five delegates from Hawaii to the historic Selma-Montgomery civil rights march in 1965 was Glenn Izutsu, then-president of the University of Hawaii student government, ASUH (“Photo exhibit shares Hawaii’s role in 1965 Selma-Montgomery march,” Star-Advertiser, July 1). His participation was not a simple nor uncontroversial decision. After an emotional and often heated debate, the ASUH Senate voted to appropriate student funds to send Glenn to represent UH students (and Hawaii) in this march.
