Off the news: OER loses budget, decides to wind down

The drama between Mayor Rick Blangiardi and City Council over the city Office of Economic Revitalization (OER) is unfortunate. Seems like OER had a chance to shore up deficiencies in recent years, certainly after a scathing January city audit found problems in performance, transparency and reporting practices. Now the Council has slashed much of its operations budget, including 15 contract workers, about 75% of its staff. OER’s chief says the office will wind down programs and effectively cease operations at the end of September.
