Benny Chong and Byron Yasui honored in the ‘Ukulele Hall of Fame

When Benny Chong and Byron Yasui are inducted into the ‘Ukulele Hall of Fame during today’s International ‘Ukulele Festival of Hawai‘i 2026 at Kapiolani Park, they will be sharing another milestone in careers that had remarkable parallels even before they began playing music together: They both were introduced to the ukulele at home and later transitioned to other instruments that were in greater commercial demand, and, after successful careers playing those other instruments, both took up the ukulele again.
