Editorial: Federal cuts harm Native Hawaiians

The federal administration’s aggressive efforts to dismantle “diversity, equity and inclusion” or DEI- informed policy began almost immediately after Donald Trump took office in 2025, with cascading negative effects. Simultaneously, the administration took an Elon Musk-modeled “chainsaw” approach to spending on federal health and welfare programs, education, conservation and renewable energy programs that included supports for Native Hawaiians.
