Navy officers turned their backs on the water problem at Red Hill, and as a result 93,000 people were poisoned. As reported in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, these officers knew they had served in the Navy long enough to retire. They told their wives to say that they wanted to be closer to their families and grandchildren. When the going gets tough, the cowards leave.
