Hawaii hospitals continue to make progress in advancing specialized services, despite continued nationwide shortfalls in funding for regional and rural medical centers. On Monday, Kona Community Hospital, an independent member of the state-run Hawaii Health Systems Corp., announced that it now meets American College of Surgeons-verified criteria to serve as a level III trauma center, providing immediate, on-site care for critically injured trauma patients.
