Coast Guard searching for overdue vessel off of Lanai

The Coast Guard is searching waters off Manele Bay, Lanai for an overdue sailing vessel.

Coast Guard officials say the white, 34-foot boat, called "Larina," departed the La Marina Yacht Club in Honolulu Wednesday evening for a seven-day trip.

Officials say the person who reported the overdue vessel stated she was last in contact with the vessel at 5:45 p.m. Thursday. During the phone call she was told the trip was going well and to expect a call back later in the day. The call back never came.

According to Coast Guard officials, four people were reported to be on the vessel.

An aircrew piloting an HC-130 Hercules aircraft from Air Station Barbers Point was launched to search for the Larina at approximately 9 a.m. Saturday.

The Coast Guard requests anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of the vessel and crew to contact the Sector Honolulu command center at 808-842-2601.
