Hundreds of keiki, parents and kupuna attended the grand opening of Pana’ewa’s covered play courts in Hilo.
The 26,000 square foot gym includes basketball courts that can be converted into volleyball or tennis courts.
Officials say its designed to reduce impact-related injuries and its open-air design helps keep air conditioning costs down.
The cost of the project totaled $3.1 million.
