Many Hawaii residents will be travelling this summer and will need to rent a car.
But how do you make sure you’re not being charged extra for unnecessary fees?
The Hawaii Better Business Bureau is offering these tips.
"It’s very important for consumers to ask questions upfront and that walk around is very important prior to taking hold of that car," says Timothy Caminos of the Hawaii Better Business Bureau.
Last year, Caminos says the National Better Business Bureau got 3,800 complaints about rental car companies.
"Most of them have to do with a contract dispute, a money dispute, sometimes when consumers return their cars there are claims that there are damages done to the car that the consumer swears was not their fault," he says.
He says reading the fine print is also important to understand the fees involved when you rent a car.
"Consumers must read the fine print. Make sure that you know how much you’re going to get charged if you don’t bring it back with a full tank," he says.
And where you rent your car could determine the price you pay.
"Ask upfront to see how much you’re going to pay a day for your vehicle. Consumers can pay up to $30 to $40, even $50 more depending on even the location that they rent from," Caminos says.
