Opihi picker rescued in waters off Hilo

Big Island firefighters responded to a swimmer in distress in waters off Hilo Friday morning.

The incident happened at about 8 a.m. on the rocky shore line fronting the Kings Landing area.

Officials say the man was picking opihi when he got into trouble in the water.

Bystanders pulled the man to shore and CPR was administered.

He was then transported to the Hilo Medical Center.

His condition is unknown at this time.
