After the company announced it would be closing its two American Samoa branches.
Saturday people rallied at UH Manoa voicing their concerns.
"The problem is they just gave us a 90-day notice that they’re leaving America Samoa and we’re very saddened by this is a simple fact that this is the only US chartered bank in our little territory," said American Samoa Congressman Eni Faleomavaega.
"A lot of students depend on their families back home to provide for them when they make the move here," said UH law student Renee "leo" Togafau. "And so the only other options that are left for them is to get an Anz account, which is the only other bank that’s operating, but it’s not a full service bank."
They want the bank to give them a year-long extension so the government can find a replacement bank.
Bank of Hawaii says it’ll work closely with Samoa’s governor to ensure a smooth and orderly transition.
