Runners compete in half marathon despite wet weather

Sunday’s wet weather couldn’t stop the second annual Hapalua half marathon from taking place.

More than 2,300 runners braved the soggy conditions, making their way into Downtown, Waikiki, and Diamond head, finishing at Kapiolani Park.

The race kicked off bright and early at 6 a.m. Sunday at the Duke Kahanamoku statue.

Taking first place and capturing the $5,000 purse was 25-year old Stephen Marthy.

Marathon world record holder Patrick Makau of Kenya and two other top Kenyan runners also participated in Sunday’s race.
