Another doomsday prediction doesn’t materialize

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Despite fresh warnings from a California Ministry, the Apocalypse appears to be a no-show again.

Family Radio International stirred a frenzy around the globe in May when it predicted the rapture would sweep 200 million Christians to heaven while the rest of the world was destroyed by natural disasters. Some followers of Harold Camping quit their jobs in anticipation, while others donated their retirement savings or college funds to pay for more than 5,000 billboards and 20 RVs plastered with his Judgment Day message.

After that failed prediction and the international mockery that followed, the ministry and its 90-year-old leader have avoided the media this time around.

While two moderate earthquakes did hit the San Francisco Bay area yesterday and floods are threatening to swamp Bangkok, there have been no signs of a cataclysm, and Earth remains mostly intact.

The ministry has not returned calls for comment from The Associated Press.
