Baby in CPS custody died from respiratory failure

A nine month old baby who died while in state custody in August died of respiratory failure due to complications of bronchiolitis.

That’s according to the city medical examiner that performed an autopsy on Javid Waa-Ili.

His manner of death has been classified as natural.

In August, Waa-Ili and his two older siblings were taken away from their parents by Child Protective Services on suspicion of neglect.

Days later, Waa-Ili was brought to the Waianae Comprehensive Health Center where he was pronounced dead.
