TOKYO >> Last year, Japan’s film industry was dominated by “Kokuho,” directed by Lee Sang-il. The film centers on the world of kabuki and drew the interest of young filmgoers to Japan’s traditional performing arts. The film broke the box office record for Japanese live-action films, grossing more than 18.1 billion yen (about $117.2 million). It has also garnered a nomination at the Academy Awards.
