Column: Annual walk funds breast cancer research, honors survivors

Every two minutes, a woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer and every 12 minutes, a woman loses her life to the disease. These numbers are by no means abstract — they represent our mothers, sisters, friends, colleagues and neighbors. Here in Hawaii, we see firsthand how breast cancer impacts families and communities, regardless of background or circumstance. It is not a partisan issue; it is a deeply human one.
