Column: Federal EV tax sends wrong message

Many drivers who switched to electric vehicles did it to stop paying some of the highest gas prices in the country. It is, therefore, aggravating to watch Congress introduce a bill that would punish owners for that choice. The BUILD America 250 Act (H.R. 8870), now moving through the U.S. House, would impose a new federal fee on every electric vehicle (EV) in the country. It would add to the road-usage charge that Hawaii EV owners already pay.
