Column: Hawaii solar tax credit pays for itself; don’t end it

Hawaii imported more than 24 million barrels of crude oil in 2024, and spends billions a year on imported energy. Residents pay the nation’s highest electricity rate. Gasoline is $5.64 a gallon. Hawaiian Electric warned that residential bills may rise 20% to 30% over the next few months as the Iran war pushes up oil prices.
