Column: Hawaii teachers, students need support now more than ever

Since childhood I’ve felt a rise in emotion at this back-to-school time of the year — a mix of anticipatory excitement with a frisson of fear. This year my fear matches the national angst as our head of state is poised to swing a wrecking ball at our public education system. Will school as we need it — a foundation of our society — be there to welcome back our children?
