Column: Heed petition for bribe investigation

On Jan. 5, 929 Hawaii residents submitted a petition entitled “Restore Public Trust — Investigate the Unknown Hawaii Legislator” to the Hawaii Legislature. Invoking Hawaii Revised Statutes 21-3, the petition asked the Legislature to convene an investigative committee to examine what occurred in 2022, when an unknown but influential legislator accepted $35,000 in a paper bag. The Legislature opened Jan. 21 and closes May 8.
