Column: Let Kakaako Makai serve public good

Kakaako Makai has retained great promise as a well-planned cultural legacy for future generations. But this vital role in Hawaii’s future is facing a crossroad. Do we continue to protect Kakaako Makai as a continuation of the public recreational shoreline to serve urban Honolulu as the last remaining open shoreline, or allow a makai plan that attempts to build big-dollar high-rise, high-density development?
