Column: Mayoral change will slow Maui recovery

In the early days after the devastating 2023 Maui fire, a lot of us were furious with the county’s response. It felt as if there was no urgency to act and no will to communicate with our community. Families were sleeping in tents and cars or even moving off-island, while government moved at the pace of bureaucracy. We publicly displayed our frustration, and at the time, we meant it.
