Column: Military families need food aid, too

Every month, thousands of military families in Hawaii receive a paycheck they never actually see. Their basic allowance for housing, known as BAH, goes straight to rent, often swallowed whole by Hawaii’s record-setting housing costs. What’s left rarely stretches far enough.
