Synopsis: The names of the eight sea channels between the Hawaiian Islands are broadly known. The channel between Maui and Hawaiæi is known as the æAlenuihähä. However, there are actually two names for this channel, æAlenuihähä and æAlenuikäwahawaha. The unique character of these two channels is described in the ancient stories of Hiæiakaikapoliopele and Haæinakolo.
