Column: Tap green fee to tackle marine debris

The ocean surrounding our islands is central to our culture, economy, and way of life is under constant threat from marine debris, much of it originating far beyond Hawaii’s shores. Plastic pollution and derelict fishing gear continue to damage coral reefs, harm marine life and degrade coastlines. Addressing this crisis requires sustained, locally driven solutions.
