Column: The ocean needs advocates now more than ever

Each year in June, World Oceans Month — and specifically World Oceans Day on June 8 — invites us to pause and reflect on the vast, powerful and beautiful force that covers most of our planet. The ocean spans more than 70% of Earth’s surface and sustains life in ways we often take for granted, from producing over half the oxygen we breathe to regulating our climate and supporting economies and communities around the world.
