NFL head coaches have compared themselves to gourmet chefs preparing fine meals. Some see it as a problem that they don’t get to choose the ingredients for the meals, with those ingredients being the players. The general manager, or maybe even the owner, does that, and sometimes makes personnel decisions with little or no consultation with the coach.
