Driver who killed bicyclist and fled asks for reduced sentence

Douglas Curtis received a ten year prison term for killing Zachary Manago in December of 2010. At court today, Curtis’ attorney, Jonathan Burge, argued that the sentence was too harsh.

"I think the court should reconsider and take into account his past and the facts of those other cases," Burge said.

"What the defendant was attempting to show today was that Judge Kubo’s original sentence of May 10 was disproportionate," Deputy Prosecutor Scott Bell said. "And the prosecution’s response is this that sentencing really is also an individualized manner."

Judge Kubo denied the motion, leaving it to the paroling authority to decide how much time Curtis will serve.
